New Year´s Purposes and Wishes

Every year, when it is ending, most of us think about the next year and start formulating wishes which turn into purposes. Some people want to give up smoking, others, like myself want to do more exercise or start a healthy diet. Use the future tenses and write four sentences with each of the futures expressing your purposes, wishes and predictions for the next year. London UFOs: Multiple People Capture Odd Occurrence Over British City

While many of these types of UFO videos can often be easily written off, the emergence of two separate recordings of the same event could give you pause.

Even more incredible is just how similar they seem. Both videos show a group of three white discs floating over the city, namely over the BBC building and Tower Bridge.

Both were taken late last week, and in one of the videos you can see at least a few people looking up at the objects, adding some credibility to the cameraman.

Whether or not there's a better explanation is a matter of opinion at this point.

Last October, many New Yorkers were astonished to witness several alleged UFOs maneuvering in the sky above the Chelsea section of Manhattan - in the middle of the afternoon.

While the FAA received many reports about the strange objects and radar returns couldn’t explain the UFOs away, it turned out that they may have simply been a bunch of balloons that had been intended for a party north of the city. The balloons reportedly got away from the party, and were carried along by air currents that eventually brought them to the Big Apple.

Could this also explain the London UFOs? Or is it a Photoshop hoax depicting alien-type vehicles in the sky? Tell me what you think about UFOs.

I know, Iknow, most of you are reluctant about it, but it is a good occassion I can´t ignore again (last year I didn´t write about it), I would like you to write a "cyber-valentine card".

There is one legend that says that Saint Valentine, a patron Roman saint became a martyr for not giving up Christianity. He was laid to rest on the 14th of February in 269 A.D and since then, that day has become a day for lovers to celebrate. Some are of the opinion that along with refusing to forego Christianity, St. Valentine also denied to marry Christians in the church. It is also believed that on the day he died, he wrote out a note for his friend, the daughter of the jailor. The card read ‘From your Valentine’ and this led to the Valentines Day tradition of sending out cards signed off as from your Valentine to your loved ones. Others also say that he sent notes of affection to his followers, signing them "from your valentine". So the cards not only are adressed to your sweetheart, but also to your parents, best friend or even to your pet, and they are usually exchanged to classmates.

Hi Paula,

As I hope you know, this is my first year at this school; I’m very happy with the decision I took last June about changing school.
I’m writing this to tell you about my summer. It has been a great summer! .I had some time to do all those things that during the school year and because of my classes and all the exams , I found it difficult to do.
I spent almost two months with my family (grandmother, grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins…) in the same house! .It was obviously a very big house located in La Barrosa (Cadiz) , next to the beach , being this one of the best aspect of the house. It was a little bit crazy but I loved it as we don’t have many opportunities during the year for staying all together. All of them live in Madrid and just in special days we can visit them.
We tried not to get bored doing differents activities like visiting different beaches, playing some sports or going to the cinema.

With this post by Candela I must finish the series of summer shots, anyway remember that you will get extra marks if you comment regularly, and you are missing many chances.... so please, do the exercises from these shots, come on!!!

This summer has been very enjoyable for me. At first, in June,
I was in Seville with my friends. Later, I went to the beach
because my family has got a house in The Puerto de Santa María
(Cadiz) and it is there where we used to spend ours holidays.
There, I have got a lot of friends and we did differents activities:
we went to the cinema to see The Karate Kid (It is very funny),
we played football and tennis, we went out everi night... 
I stayed in the beach until the fist of August when I had to
return to Seville becuase I started the training sessions with
my football team, Seviilla Football Club. I went to train
each mornings and the tuesday and the thursday, I took
English classes. With my football team I often played friendly
matches and even we went to play a championship to Nerja (Málaga),
in the photo, with others teams like Real Madrid C.F., Málaga and
Real Betis.  These are my holidays.

hi paula! this summer i went to the USA, i stayed there for a month, in
july, and i lived with a host family in a small village near michigan called
buchannan, it was my first time that i went to the USA and the experience
was great!i love the american people!
well, one of the photos is about the night in chicago after a bussy day of
shopping, chicago is only two houres far michigan so, we often visited
chicago. when i visited chicago i felt like if i were in a dream, in a
fantasy world! chicago has a lot of skycrapers and is very curious to see
that around chicago there is a sea or a lake, chicago has a port! it´s
pretty beautiful!

this photo show as the chicago´s hard rock cafe! this is a gorgeous place,
when i came in i got impressive coz i have never been in a hard rock cafe
before! it´s so cute!

This summer was not my best summer because in  june I don’t pass three subject and I’m
staying in ac.preuniversitaria all the summer.

One of the weekends of July my cousin,
my uncles, my parents and me with some friends go sailing.

We left home very early as the ship stay
in ‘’El Puerto de SantaMaria’ and  we
had travel by car.

On the ship we went to ‘’Bahia de
Cadiz’’ and we stayed there all the day.I got brown the rest of the dayand and
I swim a lot at the sea, the water temperature was fine.

Monday in morning I had to
return to ac. Preuniversitaria.

Hi, Paula!

I'm Carlota Guerrero Soro and I'm a new student of your classroom  2º D. I write to
tell you my holidays in Venice.

Venice is a beautiful place, where it points out the San Marco's Square. There, you
can admire the Cathedral and the Palace Ducale. In this square you can have the most
expensive coffee in the world, because it costs 15euros. I got in a góndola through
the bridges.

In Venice the carnival is typical, that's why all shops are full of colourfull masks
and old costumes.

Also, we visited Muano's island where a special glass is made.

In the photo I show you my sister and me with the Venecian masks.

I wouldn't hesitate to visit Venice again in the future.

CRISTOBAL´S SUMER TIME  This sumer I was in Ireland,
I was living in a village call Miltow Malbay in Spanish Point
( West coast of Ireland ), It has this name because in 1588
Spanish Armada drowned in this coast. There all are green,
the weather was like I like ( clowdy and rainy ). I was
walking an visitting places all days. I saw many abadies,
graveyeards,turf and cliff. It´s a very clean country, I hope
that you can go there in a no very far future.

Dear students, I sincerely hope you all had a good summer, even those of you who had to study also should have had some free and enjoyable time. Now you should be ready for exams or for the new school year, there will be some interesting changes for the students in 1º Bachillerato as they will have to face a selectividad oral English exam too. We will speak Englsih in class and visit the language lab once a fortnight. Anyway I´ll explain everything as soon as I come back to school on the 27th September. While I´m abroad remember to review your English from last summer, try to watch American or British films in original version and read some articles on the internet.

Don´t you think they are gorgeous? I was completely shocked when María sent me the photos, the paintings are so beautiful... I asked her to give me or even to lend me one of them to hang on the wall of my class, but she refused, a pity but I understand her, she doesn´t want to get rid of any because she is still learning, but anyway, we can predict a future for her, can´t we?

OTAKON is a Japanese name which comes from the Japanese word "Otaku". Otakus are people who love manga, anime, computer games and disguising as their favourite characters. Otakons or Manga meetings, are usually held several times a year and in different places, the ones in Barcelona and Jerez are the best in Spain, there you can also find comic writers signing a picture, stalls with clothes, manga, books, kimonos, collection pieces, posters, Katanas and Asian food.

You can also practise several activities like karaoke, kendo, Japanese writing, sumo, basic rules for Japanese language, go, sogi, teruteru, drawing, mandarake, role games, make-up, and there are also contests on disguising among others: The first prize this year was a travel to Japan for two. All these activities take place in public halls, outdoor or indoor. You only must pay to get into in the best ones but never more than 3 euros.

I love photographs. I love taking pictures, also snapshotting, not only to my family and friends, and on special events. I sometimes have my camera with me so if I find something I really like I can shoot at it. Now that holidays are coming, why not take the camera with you and photograph whatever you like? We can create a “Holiday Gallery” of culturally interesting images or just beautiful photographs.

I´m a bit tired, I´ve been correcting exams all day and I have found these jokes on the internet for you, the problem is that I have all the photos sorted out and there are some jokes I don´t understand ;)

For today I have decided on some different music for those of you who want something different. I have chosen this song by "Scorpions".
"Scorpions" are a heavy metal / hard rock band from Hannover, Germany, and they began in 1965. I thought that heavy metal music was horrible,it was just noise, but years ago one of my students told me that perhaps I didn´t know how to listen to this music so he trained me, he told me what to do when listening, I did, and I have liked this music since then, of course there are some songs I don´t like but there also some songs by Alejandro Sanz which I don´t like.

Cooperative learning

This is the title of the workshop that some teachers were attending the first two days of this week, and yes, you are right, I was one of them.
It´s been great, we had a good time at the same time that we discovered new ways of teaching, and new ways of learning. The most important feature of the method is that students get their marks increased if they follow the instructions and work properly, and it is fairly easy as well as quite amusing. It is based on cooperation, sharing tasks, respect for classmates, oneself and of course, the teacher.
The aspect of the classroom has changed a little, Bea y Luísma have helped me and I think they have done a nice job. You´ll check next day. I sincerely hope you enjoy the new classes and get the most of it. What really matters is that you raise your marks and we want to help you do that.

Tips on studying (I)

Cuando vas a estudiar a veces te dices a ti mismo cosas como “No se por donde empezar”, “soy un tonto por no haber empezado antes”, “no se a quien preguntarle”, “esta asignatura nunca se me ha dado bien”, “ya no me da tiempo de nada” y otras parecidas, pues bien, ninguna te va a llevar a aprobar la asignatura, te dire como puedes combatir esas frases.
Empieza por el principio, quizas para este examen no llegues, pero ya has empezado para el siguiente, ¡lo importante no es ganar una batalla, lo importante es ganar la guerra! y por lo menos ya te puedes decir a ti mismo que has empezado.
Es cierto que deberias haber empezado antes, pero ahora ya lo sabes, y la proxima vez no te ocurrira, tienes que aprender de tus errores, planificate los estudios, pide ayuda a tu tutor o a tu profesor para que hagais un plan de estudios real y eficiente con un compromiso por tu parte.
Si esa asignatura nunca se te ha dado bien a lo mejor es porque nunca le has dedicado bastante tiempo, porque no tienes paciencia y no te gusta, prefieres dedicar tiempo a otras asignaturas que se te dan mejor. Sabes que esa no es la solucion, no te gusta porque no se te da bien y viceversa. Ya esta bien de justificaciones absurdas deberias dedicarle mas tiempo, veras como te cunde. No puedes esperar resultados inmediatos pero lo importante es que ya has empezado, que le estas dedicando mas tiempo de lo normal y es importante que empieces a sentirte orgulloso de haber empezado y de que quieres seguir, pide ayuda, diselo a tu profesor, que sepa que has empezado, que te ayude a seguir y te vaya guiando sobre el siguiente paso, que te ayude tambien a marcarte objetivos que te lleven a “ganar la guerra”.
Y sobre todo, cambia de actitud, empieza a sentirte orgulloso de ti mismo por haber empezado, tus padres y nosotros tambien nos alegraremos, pero no te engañes, hay que ser constante, encuentra tiempo, pide ayuda, aquí estamos.

Why the name?

I love handbags, big and trendy, comfortable and practical, fashionable and smart, useful and gorgeous, and I think that I would like my blog to be described with some of these adjectives at least by me, and so, there comes the pun. Also because I keep many different things inside, from the most traditional like the purse and the keys to the least like the Sunday newspaper, hand cream or my ipad ;) (not yet, sorry). I want to have different items in the blog, music, photographs, videos, exercises, links, readings, thoughts, but all of them to be shared, like my handbag, my husband sometimes asks me to keep something for him inside like the glasses case, also my daughters, that´s why it´s easy to find a Barbie shoe or a playmobil car, or someone´s key ring which will be asked for the moment “someone” arrives home.

Nueva voz

Me encanta la idea de tener una nueva voz ahora que esta comprobado que la que tengo desde que naci no funciona muy bien, ademas tambien coincide con la fecha de mi cumpleaños (cuyo numero de años me niego a hacer publico).

Me arriesgo en esta empresa con la idea inocente de que va a ayudar a mis alumnos y a mi en nuestro trabajo, aun no se muy bien como funcionara, tampoco se como funciona exactamente hoy pero estoy segura de que con esfuerzo y con vuestra ayuda saldra adelante. De mis alumnos me encantaria que os arriesgarais y me escribierais en ingles, yo valorare el esfuerzo, creo que tambien aceptaria entradas en Spanglish, aunque por supuesto el idioma no va a ser ninguna barrera que dificulte la comunicacion, lo que si esta resultando un poco raro es no poder usar ninguna tilde, ya vere como lo soluciono.
