"The executive board has
decided that the following cities can continue to the next phase and
become candidates for 2020. In the order of drawing lots: Istanbul,
Tokyo, and Madrid," said IOC spokesman Mark Adams.
The three remaining
candidate cities will enter into Phase 2 of the selection period. Files
from the cities will be submitted to the IOC by January 7, 2013.
Following an official visit by the IOC Evaluation Commission between
February and April of 2013, a report will be made to the 2020 IOC
Evaluation Commission and candidate cities will brief IOC members.
The election of the host
city of the XXXII Olympic Summer Games will take place on September 7,
2013, at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires.
In culling the field from
five to three cities, the IOC executive board relied "on application
files, the report of a working group of experts which is formed to
assess the application forms of each city, the city's compliance with
elements like the World Anti-Doping Code, and other criteria," said
Adams.
Doha, the capital of the
Gulf state of Qatar, had proposed changing the games to October 2-18, to
mitigate the extreme temperatures athletes would have to experience
during the usual July-August summer games. Based on a 10-year average,
Doha temperatures in October range from 30 to 36 degrees Celsius (86 to
96.8 degrees Fahrenheit).
The working group also
decided against Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, for its
infrastructural limitations. The "games planning and experience," were
"not sufficiently developed at this stage," according to the report.
Of the five candidate cities, only Tokyo has hosted the Olympics before, in the XVIII Olympiad held in the summer of 1964.

Madrid. Advantages.
Madrid´s weather is not too hot in summer, when the Olympic Games must be celebrated. This is a good thing for sportsman because they have to do a huge effort when the weather is hot.
In 1992, Barcelona organized the Olympic Games, so Spain has enough experience in organizing this kind of events. Moreover, Barcelona’s Games were a complete success, so Spain has demonstrated to be very able to do that very well.
It is not the first time that Madrid is candidate to the Olympic Games, so many sports facilities are already made and time is not a problem.
I think that one of the other candidates, Istanbul, is not really a true opponent because Spain is remarkably superior to Turkey.
Madrid. Disadvantages.
However, the other candidate, Tokio, is a great opponent, and may be the first problem to get the Games. Japaneses are able to do whatever they propose, and they have demonstrated it since they exist as a country (hard work, best technology, etc.).
Madrid is very far from the sea, so I think that this is a little problem, because water sports competitions have to be celebrated somewhere else.
Another problem, nowadays, is the important economic crisis that has affected us much more than other countries. Spain can not afford important investments now. But we have to say that this is not forever and it is still so long till 2020.
On this whole subject of the Olympics, I really think that everything is rigged, you see, Spain is trying to hold the games in Madrid for many years and never succeed, I believe the Olympic committee, chooses the city to celebrate games as they pay more money to the committee, I really do not know if it is, however, I think that holding the Olympic Games in Madrid would help greatly to our society because it would bring not only tourists but many very large income, because the city chosen to host these games get capital to carry out the construction of all facilities needed for the celebration, my truth is that I would really happy that the games will take place here because I love sport and everything to do with this, so my hopes as well as I wish I could go see the odd race or game in any sport that takes place, no doubt I would love to be held here in Spain, as well as raise the prestige of Spain could help this whole issue of the crisis today is so present everywhere, but I think that the Olympics games not going to celebrate in Spain for the reason that I give you at the beginning of the text
