Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (m. 1937; d. 1972)
Wallis, Duchess of Windsor (previously Wallis Simpson and Wallis Spencer, born Bessie Wallis Warfield; 19 June 1896[1] – 24 April 1986) was an American socialite. Her third husband, Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, abdicated his throne to marry her.
Wallis's father died shortly after her birth, and she and her widowed mother were partly supported by their wealthier relatives. Her first marriage, to U.S. naval officer Win Spencer, was punctuated with periods of separation and eventually ended in divorce. In 1934, during her second marriage to Ernest Simpson, she allegedly became the mistress of Edward, Prince of Wales.[2] Two years later, after Edward's accession as king, Wallis divorced her second husband in preparation to marry Edward.
The King's desire to marry a woman who had two living ex-husbands threatened to cause a constitutional crisis in the United Kingdom and the Dominions, and ultimately led to his abdication in December 1936 to marry "the woman I love".[3] After the abdication, the former king was created Duke of Windsor by his brother and successor, King George VI. Edward married Wallis six months later, after which she was formally known as the Duchess of Windsor, without the style "Her Royal Highness". She was instead styled as "Her Grace", a style normally reserved only for non-royal dukes and duchesses.
Before, during, and after World War II, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were suspected by many in government and society of being Nazi sympathisers. In the 1950s and 1960s, she and the Duke shuttled between Europe and the United States, living a life of leisure as society celebrities. After the Duke's death in 1972, the Duchess lived in seclusion, and was rarely seen in public. Her private life has been a source of much speculation, and she remains a controversial figure in British history.

Spain, Land of 10 P.M. Dinners

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/18/world/europe/spain-land-of-10-pm-dinners-ponders-a-more-standard-time.html?_r=0
I was not so shocked when I watched the news on tv today.  American people get shocked about many of our traditions and costumes, but this is not anything new, when working on our American exchange we often have to deal with cultural differences which sometimes are not so easy  to understand on both sides, but we must understand  one another to try to make the most of both countries to have a good exchange program.  Write 200 words about things you think are strange in the UK or the USA.

Alcoholism in Spain

According to a survey by the European Commission (EC), Spain is among the worst European countries for the abuse of alcohol, only Ireland, Romania, Germany and Austria have a worse record. The survey, which considers “abusive” consumption as drinking at least five standard measures of alcoholic beverage a day, such as beer, wine or spirits, reveals that this practice is not confined to a specific region of the European Union (EU) and notes that the population group in which the most abuse takes place is in young people between 15 and 24.
In Spain, 34 out of 100 people surveyed have at least five glasses of alcohol in the same day, either once or several times a week, above the European average of 29%. Only results obtained from Ireland (44%), Romania (39%), Germany and Austria (36%) are worse, while the UK rate is the same as in Spain. Also, 22% of the Spanish respondents said that they normally consume five to six alcohol drinks on any day that they drink, above the 18% average of all EU citizens.
By age, young people between 15 and 24 are the most abusive drinkers, with 25% of Europeans in this age group admit to taking five glasses of alcohol at least once a week, while 8% say they do so more than once – the survey does not provide data for individual countries in this field.
Also, Europeans aged over 55 years are the group that consume alcohol the most often, the EU warns that this constitutes a “risk factor” for the increase of chronic diseases in the current aging population.
Regarding gender distribution, the abuse of alcohol is significantly more common among men (36%) than women (19%). 44% of European women drinkers said they never consumed more than five alcoholic drinks in the same day, a figure that reduced to 26% for men.

Can you suggest measures to avoid this abusive consumption of alcoholic drinks ?

Why Advertising is important in Business ?

Advertising is one of the most important things present in our society today. Advertising helps to keep the consumers informed about whatever new products or services are available in the market at their disposal. It helps to spread awareness about products or services that are of some use to consumer and potential buyers.
The main aim of advertising, many believe is to sell. These are the kind of people who vehemently oppose anything that makes advertising seem unethical. Advertising on the whole helps business as well as the economy to prosper and makes the consumer aware of the various choices that are available to him.
Here is one of the best incidents from the life of The Richest Man in the World – Andrew Carnegie.
He set a well established business but he was against the advertisement. One agent of advertising agency met Mr. Carnegie everyday to take an order, he felt that one day he should get the order.
One day in the early morning the agent reached to Mr. Carnegie’s office for the advertising purpose. The agent asked Mr. Carnegie on the negative response from him for ads.
“I want to know from you why you are not interested for advertising ? Explain to me on time that there is no meaning on advertising & I will never come to you for this purpose…”
Mr. Carnegie said that “My products already sell without any advertisement & also people buy my products themselves than tell me, what’s the need of advertisement ?”
At the same time rings bell in church which is on the mountain far away from them.
And the agent said ” Have you listened to the bell which is ringing ? For how many years the Church is there ?” Mr. Carnegie said “The church is very old about for 100 years  & also famous.
Now the agent said ” For the last 100 years the church is on that hill, also people know about it than also every morning & evening bell rings there, Do you know why ? Because God also remembers to people that don’t forget me, I am here… According to me(agent) this is also a great effort to reach more audience.
This incidence washed Mr. Carnegie’s mind, they started the advertising. Now he feels that good things also needs explanation.
