Spain, Land of 10 P.M. Dinners

I was not so shocked when I watched the news on tv today.  American people get shocked about many of our traditions and costumes, but this is not anything new, when working on our American exchange we often have to deal with cultural differences which sometimes are not so easy  to understand on both sides, but we must understand  one another to try to make the most of both countries to have a good exchange program.  Write 200 words about things you think are strange in the UK or the USA.

64 comentarios:

  1. To have a… best relation with the other country. Getting on well with countries such as USA will benefit us. It will suppose things like the defense if there are politics problems, economist support or good commercial links. If you are from different countries, obviously, you will have different cultures, habits…
But everything must be based on respect. If your relation with other countries is ideal, you will have the opportunity to travel there. Nevertheless, if your country has bad relation with the other, you will not be good accepted in the foreigner country.
Besides, someone from his country has his own cultures and traditions. As I said before, if the relation is good, there will be an exchange of them which will be benefit to everybody. With this situation, you will have an open-mind. It will make you a person more intelligent and educated. It will also suppose the learning, if you want, of a new language.
In spite of it is good for everybody, the respect must be maintained. What you do not have to do is to criticize traditions and customs from others countries.

  2. The Spanish are very accustomed to tourists from any country in the world that stand out from the crowd by ignoring or unable to adapt to some local customs. However, when traveling abroad, it is more than likely that the Spanish is also a victim of this ignorance and end up acting like a true foreigner at your destination.
Greetings instead of kisses. Though in Spain is very normal to give two kisses when you have a person in the UK it is customary to give only the hand.
Timeliness: The English are known for their extreme punctuality. This topic is completely true. The slightest delay to get to an appointment is considered a real lack of respect. Best to arrive early to avoid the person leaves.
Tea every day: Another of the most popular topics on the British is their fondness for this tea. In fact, in many homes there is always a pot of boiling water ready for tea instantly. Accepting a cup of this drink is practically equivalent to the sympathy of the inviter.
The names of the streets: A street can change names several times in the same span. In addition, the British capital has many different streets that have exactly the same name, which greatly hinders the orientation of foreigners.

  3. One of the things that surprises me is the importance the sport ,because there they teach the sport as a subject more ,for them the sport and the subject is equal the important.
Also the parties in the house the certain friends they say you the time that start the party and the time that finish, however, the Spanish we go without think in the time because we don´t us matter.
Another thing that surprised me a lot is that the people can to have the pistol legally and I think that is very dangerous because they can to kill a very people or they do anything that don´t will nothing good when is with the pistol.
I think that is good that in Spain we can´t have the pistol because I wouldn´t go to the street because I ´am afraid the pistol, knives…

  4. the differences between United States and United Kingdom for my opinion are very big, I prefer to go to the United States than to the UK because cities seem to me more interesting and is a place that I look forward to know because it should be impressive both as buildings and all of the surrounding landscapes. I love to travel to new york. But it is true that in UK English is more good and there is a better pronunciation and there are also nice places to see and enjoy, but United States persons are normally more friendly and cheerful and time also tends to be better that the United Kingdom, the food is more recommended for UK because in the United States tends to eat fast food almost every day and mixing many sauces, and finally the history of UK is much more ancient and interesting than the United States because it is a very new country and its history does not have much time, but I'd still go to two places.

  5. I think that culture and traditions in the UK and in the United States are similar between and are very different of Spanish culture and traditions. The main difference between us is the food, firstly they eat different food, for example ,for us the paella or the Spanish omelette are so popular in Spain but in the UK or EEUU are not popular, there the food is bad and they eat a lot of fast food. But not only the types of food is different, the hours that we eat are very different, for example they have dinner at six or seven and we have dinner at nine or ten and they eat a lot in the breakfast and we eat a lot in the launch. Other cultural difference is the sleep time them the launch called ´´siesta´´, Spanish people normally sleep one hour or more at this time, Is a tradition, and in the UK and in EEUU this is an unusual habit. The last big difference between Spain and UK is driving, here and in the rest of the world (EEUU including) we drive in the right and in the UK is not the same, they drive in the left.

  6. United Kingdom is a country inside the European Union like us but there are remarkable differences between both countries. One thing that really shocked me is the timetable there. Everything starts much early and finishes much earlier. When I have dinner in Spain I was sleeping in the UK. At first it is really difficult to get used to the change. Another point is that they use pound instead of euro and they drive on the left and not on the right. Both of them make things quite different there too because, for example, you have to be very careful with the money you spend as pound value more that euro; or be sure that you are looking to the right place to cross a street. Moreover food is very different from Spanish one. Obviously I find English food worst than Spanish one. When I was there I spend half the money I had only to buy food outside the house because it is really bad. I was fed up of going to McDonalds to eat just for no eating that strange sandwich. Another thing that really surprised me was the houses. There, you can find more houses than flats; there were a lot of small villages around a bigger one only with houses where people who worked in the big one lived. There are differences that define countries and when you get used to them, you miss things but you can get by well.

  7. In my opinion, Spain has many differences with the U.S. or the UK , so anything that comes from those countries is strange or different to us. For example the food in America nobody looks calories or fat from the food you take because all or most of what they eat are burgers, hot dogs or fattening things pretty and are contrary to our Mediterranean diet. In the UK the food is more similar to ours because the cultures are closest . All this makes Americans be surprised to visit our country , which is not rare but makes us different , like them. Another thing you have not there is the "siesta" , the famous "siesta" all or almost all Spaniards slept after eating in a short period of time. It is strange to them as they rarely do it and not give it a name like " Siesta " . Definitely enjoyed from an exclusive country because their customs and culture , and we have nothing to envy to other countries who will also be exclusive for their own customs and culture, like the U.S. or the UK, although there will always be things to share or are copied from each other.

  8. I have been three times in the UK. My aunt is married with an English man, and they have two children. Sometimes I have observed very strange things; I am going to tell you some of them:
1- The way they drive. The driver is located on the right, just the opposite to the rest of the world.
2- Another thing is that although they belong to the CEE they don’t use the same money.
3- Another thing is the way they eat. In Spain it is polite to have the two arms supported on the table, while in England the left hand use to be under the table.
4- They also have different hours for eating. They have breakfast very early in the morning, because it dawn very early. They have lunch very light and very early and the hardest meat is dinner, the one that is lighter here
5- Their behavior is also different. For example, they worry too much about the children, the one who gives the present to a child is the one who have to open it and play the first with the children. If another one does it then they consider that this person is not polite

  9. I´m going to start with customs of England. First,an unique Street can have different names, for example, Oxford Street can be named as sierpes, torneo and John streets. Another important custom is that English people usually drink tea all the time, in the school,at the university at work. One very strange tradition is breakfast. They always eat bacon, eggs and animal kidneys for breakfast. The last one is that they wear beautiful party dresses in non special nights.

Now, I´m going to talk about the customs of EEUU. American people have the right to have army in their houses. For example,if someone go inside your house, you can aim him or her . Another nice customs is that during christmast, they decorate their houses with beautiful decoratives and the one that has the most beautiful one will win a premium.

  10. the U.S. customs are totally different from ours , so that almost everything there is here compared to what we are surprised . ami what surprised me most meals are the major differences in the diets of here and there .
From my point of view we have a lot more healthy and wholesome diet than they have in the United States this all based on oils and fats, there 's all different this religion as much as feeding habits ... I not know much about united states but is an enviable place economically , technologically and in many more ways, an lugaar where I love to go to spend the summer with my friends , I believe qE is a place where there are very many party and where we would spend truly okay, so I do not know many other things more united states but this place is clearly against Spain in all aspects and finally one of the things that struck me about united states and also love fashion there is something that drives me crazy , American fashion is really catches my attention , starting and ending clothes nails.

  11. America is a great country with very different customs in Spain mainly emphasizing language in the United States speak English and speak Spanish in Spain. There are many different customs between these countries for example food, while in Spain our food is varied due to the weather we have in the United States are accustomed to poor nutrition and junk food such as hamburger or hot dogs. In this culture, people have less time because going fast at all work sites as what Americans typically eat anything on the street without much preparation and at an early hour but usually eat Spanish food more elaborate family and a determined schedule. We also note that Americans usually go to bed much earlier than the Spaniards and have no habit of staying up late at any bar or restaurant because it gets dark sooner. We also differ in their clothing as Americans care much less his physical appearance and grooming more often Spanish for every occasion and also the Spanish people are generally more athletic and we like to do outdoor activities . Americans should learn many habits and customs of the Spaniards.

  12. I've always loved the United States since childhood dreamed of making a trip there and enjoy . Finally two summers ago I had the opportunity to take a field trip to san francisco , california . It really was as he had always imagined , huge beaches, amusement parks, large clothing stores and a myriad of incredible things that I loved . However, from my point of view Spain has nothing to envy to the U.S.. They starting the diet , in the U.S. are too used to junk food , cooking oil and salt with a lot and most of the time eat precooked stuff or just go to mcdonalds , pizza hut ... In Spain however we have a very varied diet , eat a lot of fish and meat of all kinds and never lacking in our daily diet fruit and vegetables . Leaving aside the issue of food is another factor that really disappointed me was the U.S. fashion . I had the image of American fashion as something fabulous but instead, although there are lots of large clothing stores very cheap and no resemblance to the Spanish fashion .

Uses and American customs are as diverse as their complex society and its vast territory . Which in some places is considered good manners seem shocking in others, and as elsewhere , hospitality depends more on the people of the regions. However, knowing a number of widespread ways make our trip more enjoyable . There are no general rules on how to dress , except in very specific local events and discerning clientele.

If visiting someone in their home, it is not mandatory to bring a small gift, but certainly welcome.

Think twice before lighting a cigarette because smoking is becoming less accepted . Much of what restrict or prohibit establishments , and there are cities like New York or Seattle banning smoking in public areas. Smoke only if you have the assurance that you are allowed. Other 's company , it is recommended to ask for permission .
Sneak in a row is extremely frowned upon.

If you talk on the phone in public , do it quietly, and only in places where they do not bother others.

The usual way of greeting , both men and women , we shake hands. However, in many areas it is not uncommon for a person you are presenting or just met me give you a kiss on the cheek or a hug. Just observe the customs of where you are and you try to act naturally .

Talking about religion can be somewhat tricky , because in large areas of the United States is very present and is very conservative. Maybe it's not a good idea to start a conversation about religion with an American if you wish to be controversial , unless you have confidence. Instead, talk about politics does not usually cause such problems , although you should always keep in mind what kind of people we are headed.

  14. Firstly I think that one of the most difference is the peculiary food in Spain. Here the are a lot of kind which they never see before. Furthermore meals time are soo different. For example they are having dinner when we are having a snack. So it is very complicated to get used to new mealtimes.
On the other hand, we can difference homes, because in england the normal is living in houses but here we can find a lot of flats in the center of the city.
They also drive on the left and pass on the right: in Spain is just the opposite and the wheel is in the right, and they have a special breakfast consisting of bacon, fried eggs, beans which is indispensable in Spain.
Besides in the U.S., prices in the great majority are lower than in Spain so the American who visit our country will have to spend more money. for example are more expensive cars, gasoline, taxes, the rate of mobile... 167
However despite of the differences between countries we only have to help to the other country person to get used to or customs and attend him as he were one more in our family and our country. So we get a good exchange program.

  15. United States customs are very similar to those of Europe with some changes. Manners at the table are perhaps what most seem to both continents. However the hours that eat them are very different from those that we eat. They eat and eat dinner early which we do not and usually used more fast food than the elaborate. As for tips, these are used and expected extensively, but in most cases they are not mandatory although not leave gratuity is frowned. In the vast majority of the population is educated Europe, in America there is a large part of the marginalized population which does not receive good education and is controlled by a few. In America, people tend to be very discreet in their dealings with other people. In Spain people give two kisses on the cheek to say hello instead in America in most of the places is only one. In Europe people is more liberal about sex, however in America people is still very conservative. One aspect that I think still has not been achieved is respect for the races, there is total respect for while that in Europe are still making mistakes with regard to racism in America.

  16. Spaniards and Americans share many things but also differ in others. customs of the United States on food high in calories and fat animals, a diet not recommended by many existing studies. However Spanish cuisine is much more rich and healthy , call : Mediterranean food . high in nutrients and fats .
I was in Canada a long time ago, when I was 10 , and I remember from there was that people were very fat cars were very striking , and it ate disgustingly good.
megustaria part by a temporary living in united states but definitely would return to Spain , because as this in sevilla was not anywhere.
the food here , the weather does , people ... I do not change it for anything .
there are several customs or laws in the united states that catch my attention , such as the ability to get you the card with 16, or the prohibition of drinking over 21 . but I think the more extreme is the ability to get you a gun at a young age , encouraging violence.

  17. For the United States or England I think one of the main Spanish food tins are there is gazpacho. I have a friend who opened a shop in London gazpacho and the saw has been extremely successful because none of the people of London and most of them had not proven the gazpacho. He recognized me, a little less than half of people have seemed an odd mixture and they do not like the taste, but more than half if they like and always has six customers a day who go every day to buy a quart of gazpacho, it had obsessed. To my taste the gazpacho is not one of the best Spanish tradition, I prefer the gazpacho.
Another food that may seem strange, that sure is a lot like the jamon and paella. That insurance jamon pata negra never dislike the U.S. and UK.

  18. London leads in the opposite direction than in Spain. That is rare and no other reason to be different. They also have outlets with three connections, which require adapter outside the UK. Americans became independent 18 years and in Spain, leaving home at 30. The typical American houses are made of wood and therefore takes so little build in Spain instead are brick and concrete, due to the climatology of each country. Meal schedules are developed as the sun rises and sets before. for example, the UK at 12 and eat dinner at 6 pm. when we Spaniards eat at 2:30 and ate half of the day at 10.

  19. When you are talking about UK and USA you can not talk at the same time of both, even when you are talking about these two big countries is really difficult to talk about them as a whole, I will write to you about my own experience, I was living in the USA during two month in Oregon and some aptitudes where a little bit strange for me:

    - They took the car to go everywhere. I am talking to you seriously, when I told you everywhere I mean all the places that you can imagine even to eat, to the cinema, to the post office, was really shocking for me. I was really surprise when I think about it, and I realized that the places where we walk more were inside the mall.
    - They can not drink alcohol under 21 years old, and my American family told me that even at home you can not drink alcohol because they can go to jail, yes you have read well, to jail or to work for the community in case that you drink and the police.

We are two kinds of typical people in our cultures very different, from American family to Spanish family you can find families that come close, but in general if you want to take about the whole we have very different cultures, ways of life and other point of view.

  21. Traditions are very different depend on the country where you live, because each one of them have an ancient due to the main inhabitants. This means that we can learn about other traditions which are similar to ours, or it wouldn’t be impossible if we cant adapt to them.

For example, in the USA there are customs such as eat fast food, work until five o’clock without any resting at midday and have diner at seven o’clock… for us, this type of life is difficult to understand because we have another timetables for working, eating and going out with friends. The whether is very important in our way of life, because we have a lot of sunny hours, and they don’t, so we can enjoy in the street for a long time.

USA is a rather modern country so they don’t have deep traditions like us, because our culture is older than theirs and we have stronger roots. However, they import festivals like Halloween, Easter, and some Christmas decorations which are very well accepted by people.

From my point of view, traditions are very important only in each country, although we can understand some of them but not share them totally. In a global word, this could be perfectly understandable and I think that it would be possible in a future.

  22. Spain has very different customs above all that can be easily fitted , the diet we get is varied can complement any type of food , a Mediterranean diet rich in change in U.S. are more specific and similar to when choosing food is more prone to fried foods and Spanish rapidas.Los disitinto have a schedule to American customs, because we do that the day is longer by the warm temperatures that we have , eat breakfast when they eat and when they dined lie , many tourists come to our country when disoriented in an exaggerated way . However, many influences society in which these , it is good for all countries cultures and customs are always based on respect , even if controversies should know that learning a foreign , nuestran as living in your country , other more stringent the more Republican but as we combine with people , no matter how different we are, policies are more equal than we think

In E.E.U.U. for me is very strange, but I can not say if this culture is strange or not because is other culture and I can not say if this is best or worse than my culture, but if I have to say something I say that the E.E.U.U. culture in special is very strange because for example in some houses you have that shoes off before into the house.
In UK for example to greet they don’t take two kisses, they alone shake hands, the two kisses give to other person when this person is the very confidence. in London have a lot of subterranean rivers, in UK they look after a lot of the nature and they are very happy when they recycling do other activities for the environment, there the people are more polite and respectful that in a lot of other countries.

  24. For me, there are three main differences:
First feeding Americans very fat from breakfast in which, besides coffee or tea and juice toast, it could be a very full breakfast in Spain, they add scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. I like that and I have to sit a while to digest it, I feel bad all morning.
They take very light early lunch on 12, just a snack, and very fast, in 15 minutes. We, unlike them, is our main meal, the most abundant, two plates of food and dessert usually slower and take more than half an hour.
Dinner, for them, is the most important meal of the day, makes it very early on the 19 and is very filling. For us it is an intermediate food from our breakfast and lunch and we took at 21.
The difference is great, obesity is higher among Americans than among the Spaniards, is increasing by imitating their customs. I think we should not do like them.
Second sporting interests are very different; they mainly enjoy baseball, football and basketball. In Spain sports hobbies are mainly football and basketball.
Third is the measurement systems we meter, yards them, we Celsius, they Kelvin’s, we liters, gallons them, we kilos, pounds them. I do not understand why they do it because historically it has not invented anything about that.

Well, although in both countries the predominant language is English and have a common history, I think the distance between the two countries is what has given some differences.
For starters, we could talk about the food. We know that in the U.S. the food is "fast " in addition to unhealthy , while in UK have some dishes a little ... weird. What is most different from us is the daily schedule they have; eat soon, dine in the evening ... I think I could not change my schedule to theirs. The dress with some English is also very strange. You can’t say that is fixed or dress appropriately. They use sandals with socks! We can’t forget that the English drive on the right and have the steering wheel on the same side! They are unlike other countries. I'll never understand why. Speaking of driving , Americans have a strange law that allows teens 16 years removed a driver's license ; however, is a law with many setbacks, because it really doesn’t allow you to drive only on certain roads , most age is 21 ... I think it's a little absurd that may lead then not so young will to do so freely.
In conclusion; I think both cultures are interesting and it is worth to know, but there are some things that we don’t understand, as they do not understand some of our Spanish customs.

The people there are more fat that here in Spain.
The food in the USA have a lot of calories, the principal foods are the burgers and the fish and chips. In return, here in Spain we usually eat more vegetables and healthy food like salads.
Another important difference is the horary of the food, they have dinner before eight o’clock. Other difference that I can find is how drive the people of the UK. We drive on the left and they on the right.
And the finally difference is that the people in the USA are stressed and they only think in work, they don’t have free time.

  28. There are many cultural differences between Spain, the U.K and the United States. Spain has a more relaxed way of living. The U.K and U.S.A live in a more hectic and automatic way of life. Starting with our day schedule we can see that we begin our day of work at around nine. At mid morning we stop for a snack and relax for a while speaking with colleagues. At around five and finish at seven. Dinner is usually around nine thirty to ten. We watch television till twelve and sleep at twelve thirty. The British and Americans usually start their day off at around seven. They do stop for a short very short break at mid morning but quickly continue with their work till lunch time which is usually at twelve. Normally they go back to work immediately and work till five P.M. They usually sleep at ten P.M.
The like British are very used to drinking tea in the afternoon around four P.M and also throughout the day.
Americans are very used to eating fast food meals like hamburgers and french-fries and pizzas. They love to eat at McDondnalds and Burger king.
In Spain we love to go out and eat tapas and fried fish at restaurants.
These are are just a few differences but there are many many more. Each country is special and unique and we should enjoy every bit of each country.

One thing that most catches my attention and that can cost us more if we were to get used to my vivr U.S. are the hours that meet both to wake up, to eat , to work and even for partying because many times when the clubs close that there is a time that Habren in Spain . Another more customs different from ours Americans are your eating habits, eating a lot worse than us and having poorer health for them . Some of the most important factors behind these cultural differences , in my view, have been the weather and temperature can grow a number of different foods, and different civilizations that existed before us and they had different beliefs.

My dream is to travel from NY small because I always dreamed of what it was like , streets , beaches , clothing stores ... Friends of my father I have said a million things to do there and they are super different from here.
my father is a chef and knows what kind of food is in each continent and country told me that the food there is very bad as everything is pre-cooked and not healthy food as we eat , such as fish or meat. there if you want to eat something healthy, you'll just find something precooked . to be used is not normal for someone to go get fat but the U.S. certainly going to have some another kilo .
I really love the food of those sites, or any McDonal shop junk food, but also a good fish I eat it .
In general , there the only thing more surprising me is the amount of cheap clothing stores and many fashion designers out there and yet the bad taste in clothes that people have and how bad dress .
would go there just for the site and having as fabulous beaches.

Particularly to me one of the things that most attracted my atecion Americans and English is only a couple of times a week showering and ami that does not seem right because if hacesmucho sport, sweat a lot and it's bad not to take a shower and also produces very bad smell. Also in Spain dined late, and there they dine at our snack time. And this is because they have a different way of eating. Since much breakfast, eat little and often no big deal usually dinner.

The Americans also really like fast food and this is seen in the physical condition of many of them, since most young Americans are overweight and very concerned because this is one of the most important causes of death in many countries besides that people who often consume fast food, do not do much sport and this is very noticeable in their physical condition.

There are a lot of different customs between my country and the other two. One of the more shocking to me is the existence of the “Brunch”.
The brunch is the sum of breakfast and lunch, it is a meal during the week usually in the late morning but it can extend to as late as 3PM on Sundays. The Brunch is originated of England but later it was implanted to USA. I know this custom because I usually watch on the American or England films and series. I would like to try this tradition when I travel there.
Other thing that surprises me is the conduction to the left side of road. I have never been there but my brother has and he said to me that is so scary because its looks like we crash to the other cars.
This is only two things among a million of the differences of cultures between Spain and this other countries.

  34. One the strangest things about the USA is the opening hours of many business. Places are open 24 hours a day. Supermarkets, gyms, libraries, It is what they call 24/7 and it means to be available every single second of the time. It is true that for anybody that needs to buy something urgently at 2 a.m. it can be quite convenient and helpful to have a shop or a mall open. But, being realistic, who really needs to buy something that late at night?

In the case of gyms that are open all night… this is crazy. Some addicts may spend all night there working on the muscles.
Of course, that means that other people are working and from this has two sides: the positive one is that more jobs are created and the negative one is that those strange schedules may affect their lives.
It is important to respect social times also for our health. So I like the way it is in Spain, where shops are closed for lunch in order to eat comfortably and have some rest.

  35. To have a… best relation with the other country. Getting on well with countries such as USA will benefit us. It will suppose things like the defense if there are politics problems, economist support or good commercial links. If you are from different countries, obviously, you will have different cultures, habits…

  36. Obviously Spain and England have the same customs as we are not equal. They are whiter and drunk and we seem more dark and noisy. But I guess the thing to eat before or after will be because sunlight hours that make us do what we do well. They eat different because before lying down, at least, but are fatter because they eat more junk food. Our dinner being performed normally 21:30 and 23:00 and yours a little earlier because we went to bed later. I suppose it's also because the Mediterranean diet also says so. What is not is why our ancestors always and these dates are also meals

  37. In my opinion I don't think that there are things or strange actions of certain countries. Every country has its customs and them should, not must change by rare that seem. For us is rare for example the type of breakfast that have in these countries of Great Britain or the United States, and is not that they are rare, they are not the only to do that kind of meals alomejor the rare are Spanish, but depending on where you look at is rare or not.
The English for my way of looking at life are strange, just like Americans in the schedule to make everything. Eat dinner very early they rise early although not long before the Spaniards, they eat early... And another rare thing in these countries is working hours is rare that this split into two partial times when in Spain is usually occur.
In conclusion that for me, if there are odd things, but depending on the person and where is that person so you call them strange.

  38. The Spanish food is an art, omelette, serrano ham, gazpacho ... are my favorite foods. But when we have to talk about foreign food I doubt many of the Spanish meals. I've never been to America but I've seen many TV shows and talked to many friends who have visited and if ever I have more desire to go. The food there is based solely and exclusively in fat and taste, unlike in Spain that increasingly the population eats only food that is not fattening. In USA have very many types of burgers, fries, hot dogs, ice cream, pizza ... that is, what for me would be a real paradise for food. Peanut butter is delicious, I know because a friend brought me there and I loved it, and in Spain the butter is sold in very few sites with lower quality than that of USA.

There are different cultures, there are some that are more open than others and there are also others that are closed. This varies depending on where the country or the type of government you have , so in Western countries are, generally capitalists, are more open and are countries where different cultures , religions, etc. . smooth; and in Eastern countries , where dictatorships usually either communist or other nature , are closed to foreign countries though there are people with other types of culture, religion, etc. . are not directly accepted or pursued and brought to a secondary place in society .
For me there are rare UK customs but not do us much. This is, for example , schedules that have and sharing meals a day is very different in Spain where you can see foreigners eating at seven or eight , which here in Spain can be perfectly picnicking . But the issue of time for them to watch football is not much better where they see the latest games or bad hours, which is something very different here in Spain. And another thing with Spain would be the subject of food but this does vary from country to country, of course.

  40. Spanish and Americans share many things, but also they differ in others. In my opinion USA is a country that differs in many areas of all the rest countries. One of the things that really is called me the attention is the one that leads, precisely, the opposite of other one that is in the right side. London takes in the opposite direction that in Spain. It is rare and not for another reason that to be different.
Also they have exits with three connections, which need adapter of out of the United Kingdom. The Americans became free of 18 years in Spain, to go out of house for the 30. Customs of the United States in high food in calories and animal fats, a diet not recommended by many existing studies. Nevertheless the Spanish kitchen is much richer and healthy, call to: Mediterranean food. High place contained of nutrients and fats.
Also they differ in his clothes as the Americans there worry much less his physical appearance and the personal arrangement more often Spanish woman for every occasion and also the Spanish are in general more athletic and we like to do activities outdoors. The Americans should learn many habits and customs of the Spanish

If it is true that some customs of some places may seem quite strange since we were there and I live every day in many different ways is passed. My wonder pretty, customs such as dinner at such an early hour , since at that time there are people sleeping or picnicking in our country. Also the breakfast mid-morning because many larger often seeming a meal , while in our country at midmorning a much smaller breakfast food . We can also compare with breakfast , since it is also huge, bringing the feeling that we would be unable to have breakfast something. Besides this the way to take many holidays as Hallowen because our country has a completely opposite meaning to be a day to honor the dead while in places like the United States is much more fun and entertaining , disguising people and asking for candy street. I also wonder diet that lead elsewhere because it is much more bad than ours, since in our country can boast of the best diet in the world . Besides hygiene since in our country so lived and the seen , I think hygiene is much higher and people in some places is much more fun if you have to take into account the harsh laws regarding this issue to in other countries.

  42. We are quite different when we compare with the British eating habits. Our food is different, healthier . We have the Mediterranean diet where we use olive oil, vegetables, legumes, fish and fruit. There is also another difference, when we eat there is always bread on the table. The English are not accustomed to accompany the meal with bread. In Spain we normally drink water with the meals. In England it is more usual to drink flavored water, orange or lemon flavor. Mealtimes are earlier as in Spain, we usually eat around 15:00 h . In addition to that in Spain we like the sobremesa. This is the time we sit together after finishing the meals. The sobremesa is sacred. In other countries it is usual to take a long walk after the meals. In the personal attention we are also different . In Spain we usually give kisses to greet, in England you shake hands . The houses are also different. They usually have a lot of carpeting throughout the house including the bathroom which is not very hygienic . That's unthinkable in Spain . Instead the streets are much cleaner than in Spain because people do not usually throw things on the street and are very polite .

It is normal that when they come to Spain you call them attention our customs such as bullfighting, flamenco, meals, naps and other things but I think that in general foreigners these things like them.To my it strikes me in England the custom of tea, with the good that is coffee and above all the foolishness of driving on the left side when in the rest of the world do the right side. The customs of the Americans now not occurs to me any strange, as he is not eat hamburgers and hot dogs on the street, but to me that I like, above all if you're in a hurry I also love, otherwise I do not think that they are so different, even their Halloween party also already held here in Spain, we only need the Turkey of Easter and I also think that this is well.
Creo que la mayoría de las costumbres buenas de cada país las vamos copiando todos y las propias de cada uno mantienen cada uno, porque no me imagino un inglés bailando sevillanas ni a un estadounidense toreando, pero si me los imagino echando una siesta en verano.

Logically, I accustomed to the tradition Spanish; hence I see strange everything, for example the food:
In EE.UU the people use more fried and the junk food as MacDonald’s, burger king… it´s well for a special day but always it occasioned overweight because it isn´t healthy diet.
In Mexico use more the hot and spicy food, the children eat since young bauble and food very spicy and their stomachs are accustomed but for a foreign is a complicated food.
In Venezuela eat more white fish, on the contrary Canada or EE.UU because they prefer the meat.
Other strange costume is the time but does something, eat very early, wake-up too and sleep very soon.
On the other hand the young people with 14-17 years not leave to the street in the night, here with my years all people leave to the disco and the party.

It is true that they have many different manners, for example, in the UK they always have dinner at 7 pm, while in Spain we usually have dinner later (10 pm), when I was there I used to have dinner before going out. However, between 10-11pm they usually have a break (a sandwich, sweets…). In the UK, on Sundays, they have dinner at 3 pm, I don’t know why, but I find it very strange… In the UK they don’t use napkins, and generally, the type of food is different.
In the USA is completely different, they eat a lot, one day, when I was there, I ate at McDonald’s twice a day! I love fast food but I think that eating it repeatedly is very unhealthy; they eat a lot, that’s why most people in my family in the USA are fat…
They don’t like fruit; they prefer eating sweets and chocolates. I think their lifestyle is very unhealthy and bad.
I love my country, and I wouldn’t change it never because I think Spain is the best country in the world!

  46. Greetings instead of kisses : Although in Spain is very normal to give two kisses when you have a person in the UK it is customary to give only the hand. Kissing a subject of his gracious majesty that you just met may have consequences cone from the need to apologize repeatedly , until a loud slap.

. 2 - Timeliness : The English are known for their extreme punctuality. This topic is completely true. The slightest delay to get to an appointment is considered a real lack of respect. Best to arrive early to avoid the person or leave , if you decide to wait , having to put up a fight and long faces.

. 3 - Carpets : In the UK carpets are everywhere , from living rooms and bedrooms to the bathrooms , which should neither be too hygienic, is very shocking to the Spaniards.

4 - TV Licence . Anyone with a television must pay an annual fee to cover the costs of the BBC. This tax applies even to foreigners temporarily residing in the country and if not paid , the fine may be a thousand pounds.

United States, England and Spain are very different among themselves, but if I had to choose between USA and England would go to England, because it is one of the world's powers and where it started the industrial revolution among other things besides being where football was started. The Americans are taken very seriously for example sport, in america they reward its best athletes and give scholarships to athletes from all over the world. But it's funny to see how they reward its best athletes and be USA started where the food wastes, another thing that surprised me the American is the subject of guns, nose and allowed everyone to have one in your home. Another thing of which we can talk about is patriotism, in Spain a flag is symbol of fascism and in the USA otherwise Union. The Englishmen. What surprises me in the UK is that I do not know any city that is famous for beaches, I suppose it's because there the beaches are not very good, as they speak the English is different as Americans speak and I think the English speak louder because they do not shorten words. One of the things that I don't like the English is that they use for all butter, up to for tortillas

  48. As usual there are cultural differences between countries like United States and United Kingdom, but we should look at things that unite us and not separate us to move forward in many areas such as science and culture.
but there are also differences that I think we are good to our country. as it is the case of the social security or the right to study a degree. in the United States you must pay for admission to a hospital, and there are many people that can't pay the cost of their illness or many young people who can not study because his career is too expensive and are forced to ask for a credit for that money, which is a way of pissing off the student as he is forced to work while this school and this makes is more difficult.
another big difference I find is the fast food obsession, as Americans eat a lot in places such as mcdonald or Burger king does not have a good diet since this food is all fat and only provides calories to who eats it
Finally I think that they are more things that bind us that separate us so we should learn from each other about the differences between our countries to pick up good habits and put them in our culture

However, when traveling abroad, it is more than likely that the Spanish is also a victim of this ignorance and end up acting like a true foreigner at your destination.
Greetings instead of kisses. Though in Spain is very normal to give two kisses when you have a person in the UK it is customary to give only the hand.

  51. 52. I think that is as the tourist motto says "Spain is different" that means that the United States are different too. Some of the differences that call my attention are: that young Americans become much more independent than in Spain. It is typical for young American students leave their home when they are ready to go to college unlike here in Spain where it is typical that a son or daughter live with their parents until they get married. Another difference that calls my attention is that there are so many people in the United States that are obese. It seems to be the kingdom of fast food with restaurant chains like McDonalds, Burger King and KFC, cheap food is quickly available all day for a little money. Since they don't have siestas or nourish their bodies like Spanish people do for their meals, their diet is poorer than here in Spain.
Fashion is also different. In the United States in general, the people use more informal clothes, like sneakers or shorts, while in Spain women pay more attention to their clothes and complements.
Even though the differences are not quite great, with the exception of language (but Spanish is growing quite rapidly in the US) both countries have something special which should make them feel proud .

“They ate the ham in less of a minute, but the oil… –She said- They didn’t taste it!”

According to her they kept it in the kitchen but they didn’t cook with that. She explained them that in Andalusia is typical to eat for breakfast a toast with olive oil and sugar but Paddy, the man, said that it was crazy! How are we going to mix oil with sugar!? My sister insisted on but he didn’t want to hear her.

Other day she explained to him how to do Gazpacho and she gave him the recipe. She told him that Gazpacho is a tipical plate of the South of Spain what people eat/drink in summer because it’s very refreshing and it’s delicious! But… He didn’t like “tomato soup”.

My sister ate everyday fast food, just because her adoptive family didn’t like to cook, so finally I think this is the reason why I think I couldn’t travel abroad to a stranger’s house, I would miss Spanish food a lot!

The buttered cucumber sandwiches is also a very strange meal for us. A very traditional food from there and Spain see it very rare is a cake of minced meat with mashed potato and vegetables below. The Americans do not have lots of rare food but are famous for their food waste and the high childhood overweight that exist in the United States because of junk food. In my opinion I think that culture and traditions in the UK and in the United States are similar between and are very different of Spanish culture and traditions. A very Spanish tradition that is not practiced in this two countries is the bulls or the failure of valencia. Between UK and USA the traditions are very similar such as halloween or Easter, which is celebrated as Easter here in Spain. Schedules of foods are the only thing that can differentiate between them since in England is very early, breakfast is lunch early, snack on six and is taken as a Spanish dinner and dinner is an appetizer guy before going to sleep.

But they can’t drink until they are 21 years old. This is very silly because everybody knows that they drink alcohol. I think it is very bad because if young people can’t drink alcohol, they will drink it anyway, but they will hide.

-traffic rules. there most cars that drive automatic, people take the card to! 6 years
-in Spain, for example, people are very quiet and there especially in big cities people always stressed
-parties there are deadly. fraternities have huge houses there under any control. unfortunately that does not happen in Europe. Although it is also true that the children there are far more cruel than those here

-another is overweight, do not understand how the rate of overweight is so huge, that in Europe there are big but not as many or as much weight, come to be people that filled entire rooms and that they could not get up because they could not with their own but if they did, the bones would break what they weigh ...

  60. We are accustomed to our own schedules, like every body in the world. For me it would be strange to have dinner at six oclock, for example, like people do in England,
I think schedules are set by the weather, adding other things. In Spain it would be absurd to have dinner so early just because here, during some months, between March and
September, at that time the sun is still in the sky and that is our afternoon. During those months, we use to have dinner when the sun desappear and that is between nine
and ten. It?s very different in our country the hours working. We use to have a break in the noon (our noon), that is arround two until four, I think that is also beacause
our days are longer than the rest of Europe, so we have a break in order to make the working day more bearable. Like I said in a previous post, the weather influences us
also in the style of life. In UK people are not accustomed to have a "street life" unlike us. Sunny days make you like going out and enjoy the nature, the sun in a bar
terrace with a coffe, with the company of friends and family. That is a very social life and I think that is a very good way to have a good social enviroment. I could
not bear every day going from home to school and then from school to home. But I should say it is an importat thing that you have to do what yo see wherever you are so
at the end you finally accept the life where you are living in order to adapt yourself.

The English instead of giving two kisses when you have someone to greet or shake hands, they are also very punctual and considered disrespectful tardiness and you better get there a little early to avoid arguments and bad sides. For Spanish is very rare that there carpets throughout the house, bedrooms, bathrooms, living ... it is also unhygienic. They have to pay a license to watch TV including those residing in the country for a period of time and the fine could reach thousand pounds. They respect the queues for virtually everything and who try to sneak be frowned upon and he will be the last. The British are very fond of taking you at all hours and in some houses there is a pot of boiling water ready to prepare this infusion and accept a cup of tea in a house is to gain the sympathy of that person. The English are very polite and constantly repeated (sorry, por favor, thank you).
The system for naming streets of London is very chaotic because each frame can be called in different ways, also in the British capital there are many different streets that are named in the same way and this makes it very difficult for foreign orientation.
