"I'm using a dog leash for a small dog," says roboticist Sergei Lupashin as he demonstrates a new kind of consumer-friendly drone at the Ted (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference in Vancouver.
By tethering it, he hopes the Fotokite, as it is called, can avoid some of the issues faced by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are banned without a special licence because of safety and privacy concerns.
"It doesn't rely on GPS [ Global Positioning System], sophisticated machine vision, radio, it doesn't even use a compass. Most crashes today happen because of GPS, radio or piloting issues," says Dr Lupashin.
"Should something happen, the leash gives a robust fail safe - the vehicle reduces thrust and it automatically comes back to the operator," he adds.
The inspiration for the device came during street protests in Bolotnaya Square in Moscow, when he realised it could be an invaluable tool for reporting protests around the world.
"For journalists it is good to get that perspective, to show the scale of the event without adding to the tension," says Dr Lupashin.
But he also sees potential for amateur and professional photographers, archaeologists, architects and even as a toy for children.
His prototype device uses a shop-bought quadrocopter with "a basic action camera attached" which, in turn, is connected to a standard dog lead. It can shoot both video and stills.

For what I would use a drone , is typical for what you use it all the little kids when they have one , mainly for the game. A drone depending if you child can use it for different things , young children use it for fun , to distract , to be a different toy all , you can do the fly with a simple command. Otherwise I would use it to annoy my brothers or to play and have some fun with my little cousins and my little brother . The truth is that I mostly never used and have not had any, but I think this toy has only one use, and that's the fun of being able to fly a plane just give a few buttons. I believe that this new device must be very expensive but very useful. everyone wants to know what happens or what they say when not is. For example, if you are a concerned mother because you've left to your baby with a woman you can spy them on evenings when out of the House, or if your daughter is already higher and you are afraid of what makes when you leave home, you can spy at night but thats psychopath. I would like to have it because I spend much time alone and always see movies of fear, because I would use that device to investigate what happens in my house if enter a thief and thus be able to run until I catch. I would also use it to spy on my boyfriend at a party or even at home to see if it gives me the horns.

ResponderEliminarActually it would be very interesting to have a drone. It would be an interesting way to entertain but also has its drawbacks. The first is, I guess, its price as it seems an expensive item; the second is its handling, you have to practice enough to know and learn to control security control involves not crash the drone and also the safety of others. But for me, the drones are very useful as they can be used to control demonstrations and other large gatherings of people, and this is because they include a camera as the drones have the ability to take and take advantage their usefulness. I'd like to control it because it would be funny. Besides catching demonstrations, etc.. can be used for reports and for movies. In short, many useful options and greats benefits to society.
To be honest, this is the first time that I heard this word, a drone. I don’t know what is a drone and what uses it has but I think it is like a tinny helicopter. If I had one, I will use it for making a lot of photos from above. For example, I will use it at the beach to make photos of the ocean, it has to be amazing; in a birthday party or football fields.

In my opinion I think is a very interesting invention, as it will allow the user to view perspectives that were previously more complex to obtain.

It is clear that someone my age don't would use this appliance for anything unusual, if not as a simple photo camera. To me, I love photography, I could take pictures of mountains from a perspective that I could not have, or views of the most beautiful city in the world, Seville
The best utility I see that this device is the spy, because when you do something wrong or secret you don’t looking at the sky, where the drone would be placed
But the utility more beautiful are photography, sure there are incredible views that not everyone can see, and that this device would be able to share with the world
The drone goes over the ground so it could give a perspective of the structure.. This type of drone is used for large fields which cannot be looked after by someone. Hopefully, they could be also used to record films because of the height it can reach. I would use it to take photographies of any landscape. It would immortalize, any moments that we could keep for a long time. Another use I would give to drones is to control the traffic. These systems will alert of any traffic accidents. Also these drones can use for spy the terrorist and this plans or the robbers, then you can use this drones for watch your house or your object with some value for you next you can use these drones with one finality educative or informative or inclusive to keep the peace in the world, between countries.

But they are very expensive and I have to save a lot of money. I want to buy a drone that it is very big, black and it has four wings to fly. It is very strong and I will not break it.
ResponderEliminarIf I have a drone I will use it to put a video camare on the drone. I will move the drone with the camera and the camera will record all. I go to Maria Luisa Park to use the drone. Drones can fly and I will have a very big one which will fly. I will record the people in the park. They are running, cycling or speaking with the friends.
I will ask my father to buy a drone for this summer holidays. We can fly the drone and the camera too. We can use in Valencia, in the beaches when we are with our family and friends. I am sure that my friends want to have a drone as well.

to can spy your neigbours but I guess that is ban. It would be fantastic use the drone to send it to the school and in that way you have not to go yourself to the school, you could
asist to the class through a video camera add in your drone and in the same way you have not to go to anywhere you don?t want. If your mother obligate you to go you can just say her,
mum I?m not going but i will send my drone. You can use it also to go to places that it is supposed you can not go in, for example in a natural disaster where the place is completly
razed, drone could be used in order to find people. You can use it also to check if a shop in open or not, you are at home and you have to dress to go out to buy something but you
are not sure if the shop is going to be closed, you send your drone and check it.
If I had one of these devices, I would devote to gossip things that I could not see or know if it was not for this device. First, I would put the device in the school and I would do photos do all the tests, then photocopy and sell them, this would be a good deal. Another thing I would do is to get into people’s homes and I would gossip to found something interesting.

It would also be a good idea to use it for other parts of the world, so it would be like to be there.
This device would be useful for me to see the shops at home and know where to go and what to buy. It could also be used to snoop the lives of the famous or to sneak into the fashion runways of New York or London and see the new designs of the most famous designers.

In my opinion these unmanned aircraft can be very useful for many things. Of course for military activities because facilities would allow spying and even bomb the enemy without loss of life. That last time we see it in many movies and think it is a reality, but can also be used to shoot from incredible positions, most recently seen on television since españaña Tower building in Madrid. I also remember a TV show that was archaeological studies in Egypt that drones were used to make drawings of the buildings and to descubir ancient cities buried by sand.
