Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the first day of the year of the Chinese calendar. In China, it is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year's Eve, the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. Because the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year".
The source of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Traditionally, the festival was a time to honor deities as well as ancestors. Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore,  Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius,  Philippines,  and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors.
Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. Often, the evening preceding Chinese New Year's Day is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly cleanse the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "good fortune" or "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity." Other activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes.

Why would you like to celebrate it or not? Write advantages and disadvantages. 200words.

I 've never gone there as me the advantages and disadvantages that may have become clear. Like in our celebrations, people eat together, that symbolize, harmony, happiness and union for the family.

  5. The Chinese New Year is a very important moment for Chinese people.
It is a holiday that is celebrated in a big way.On New Years Eve they have dinner with the family.
I would like to go sometime to see how it goes and to see it with my own eyes but I really think that I like it better in Spain, having dinner with my family, eating grapes and partying with my friends.
I think the advantages of the Chinese New Year that it lasts for a really long time and everything is decorated with a lot of details.
A disadvantage is that if you celebrate this type of New Year, you have to clean the house to have good luck. This is in my opinion something that does not have much logic, because luck does not exist.
As a conclusion, I would like to visit all the New Years of all countries of the world and see which I like more and which less.

  6. The celebration which is made By Chinese people is one of the most spectacular traditions all over the world. They have their own typical celebration and it not similar to any other. Moreover, they have their own traditions which come since ages ago.
On the one hand, celebrating Chinese New Year could have some advantages. First of all, it is a colorful festival where red stands out. Like every traditional festivity, it joins all the members of a family and gives the opportunity of knowing new people. This is specially interesting if you are from a different culture.
On the other hand, this event could have too many disadvantages. The main one is the rejection that it can produce on people who think their culture is the best. Many people have repugnance to all which is related to Chinese people. If you have your own tradition, it will be difficult to be interested on another.
To sum up and in my opinion, I would celebrate it only to know more about this ancient tradition. Furthermore, it comes from a millionaire festivity and their way of celebrating must be very interesting. However, there will be people who do not want to know anything about this particular tradition because they all hate Chinese people. Adopting this thought is missing the opportunity to open your mind.

  7. Chinese New Year is a traditional festival that is very important in China, most i like our own celebration of Spanish New Year , but the truth is that the Chinese New Year would be quite fun to celebrate it because it is totally different from what we are used to do here and it would be interesting to try new and different cultures to know what the other people live around the world. Besides the numerous festivals that do have to be very funny and I think it would pass very well.
With regard to the disadvantages it has is that people would become very superstitious with that cleaning houses to come fortune and no disease in the family, this would be all the time we thought our luck or if the new year has brought us misfortune and problems , which is not good for people . Because the Chinese Lunar New Year is the year, the presence of the universe is very important to celebrate the arrival condition of a new year .

Moreover I think the Chinese is exceeded when celebrating any holiday and this is a necessary expense for the Chinese country money and noise pollution. We must understand and respect the tourists who visit China and when they are invaded streets of people and cannot enjoy the scenery and good rest quietly in the hotel due to noise caused by this type of event.
Although for the Chinese is pretty important and should give some thought to others and the inconvenience that may cause or consequences of this celebration in the tourists and the Chinese people.

This type of party Western Europe doesn't understand them and not accept them, not be that but so, I think that all this must be respectable.
The cons of this feast is all kinds of strange rituals that make the Chinese tend not to like in the European society and the pros for my taste are the new knowledge to be gained in foreign countries and new experiences.

This year the representative symbol is the horse. I would like to share with locals their customs and traditions, their meals and celebrations as they are very different from ours. The year-end party is an emotionally charged and illusion because you always have the hope that the coming new year will be better than the year you just live . I like to celebrate everywhere but especially around my family and friends, because when my brother and I were little my parents and friends of my parents with their children rented a country house in the middle of the mountains and there we celebrated in style high with costumes, masks joke and plenty of food and drink. Now that we are older we tend to celebrate this party in the house of some friends of my parents and the children after we left party with our friends. I would love to spend a year off to sevilla in some tropical country or desert island.

The Chinese New Year is an Eastern tradition which is celebrated not only Asian countries, but is spreading worldwide. His conclusion is very similar to the normal new year, but meets certain Eastern traditions.
On the one hand it's a family occasion where all the family has dinner together and celebrates together the year’s arrival. Some of the activities that are performed that night are very interesting, such as putting in houses red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "good fortune" or "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity ".It is very similar to the red paper envelopes typical bonus, and throws firecrackers to celebrate the festival.
On the other hand, it is a big expense, because if the current New Year is celebrated is celebrated 1st of January, only 15 days later you should also celebrate this, and it’s quite often. The dates are very rare, and in fact, our culture doesn't fit with the reason we are celebrating the Chinese year.
It might be interesting to learn how they celebrate the festival, but personally, as it’s so similar to our New Year's party, I prefer to continue celebrating the traditional festival of our country, because the Chinese year doesn’t affect me and I don’t care.

The night before the end of the year everyone in family gather for its new year and cleaned their House to avoid bad luck and put ornaments to attract good luck for the year that will begin. The Chinese are very superstitious, but their customs are very different than ours. To my I would like to see this celebration one day because it is impressive and will enjoy much.

  17. China is a very special country far away from us. As each country does, it has its own traditions that we can find a bit strange and maybe this can be because its culture has not got any Latin or Greek influence as we have. The celebration of Chinese New Year is one of their most important festivals and it is celebrated on the first day of the Chinese Calendar. Every year is represented by one animal, every time one different from the others. The day of the festival is really attractive and colorful. We can find extravagant costumes and a lot of decoration in their houses. It is also celebrated in other places apart from China as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand. It is not the same day as our New Years Day so I find it quite interesting and maybe I would be able to see it by myself one day. Probably, I would visit China and see this festival once or two if I like it but I do not think that I would celebrate it every year because I am not indentified with this tradition so I do no find the point of celebrating it.

  22. Of course I would like to celebrate the Chinese New Year, because I think that it will be a nice opportunity to learn a lot about another culture that is so different to ours. I also would like because the number of Chinese people is increasing in Spain very quickly and it would be important to share with them some of their customs. It is always rewarding to learn new things. My mother has a partner who is Chinese and she is our friend, sometimes she tell us very curious thing of china. For example, children never use dodots, they have just a whole in the pajama and the trousers have also a whole until the baby can control pi, they eat some insects, like ants or cockroaches and scorpions. Their customs are so different that it would be interesting to celebrate one of their parties.
Of course, in Spain we really like celebration and one of the disadvantages I can see is that if people like this party it can become another of our own celebration, something that have some precedents as the hallowing party. And we cannot celebrate every nationality party. Perhaps a good idea will be to go to China to celebrate there the New Year, making an immersion in the Chinese culture.

The Chinese new year, better known as the Spring Festival in China or as Lunar New year abroad, is the most important traditional festival of the Chinese calendar year, held also in other countries of East Asia. Based on the traditionally used in China moon calendar, celebrations begin the first day of the first lunar month and end the fifteenth day, when is the Festival of lanterns. During this period, there is the largest human migration on the planet, the movement of spring, with millions of people travelling to their places of origin to celebrate the holiday with their families. The year-4712 according to the Chinese calendar begins on January 31, 2014. To my personally I'd like to celebrate the Chinese new year is a Festival where people forget their problems and have fun with your family. It is a time to be United, because most of the time spend you outside their homes. In general all should enjoy moments so I suggest, since everyone has a right to celebrate the year input with their most beloved people, to ask God for a wish for the year that will begin.

It would be curious to celebrate because, here in Spain is very different. Although I'd try not meaning I like absolutely. The main disadvantages Vein will include the date that seems very strange to celebrate New Year and the details of the envelopes and that, I see very rare apart from that everything is red. But it also has very cool stuff, such as: dragons, parades that make them are very entertaining and are very pretty, and every detail to wish good luck in the coming year. Although what I would attract the millions of journeys that take place on these dates. Because China is the most populated country in the world and they are more than a billion, a lot. See the country's infrastructure before moving so many people at once. In short, I like to live Chinese New Year but have things I do not like or just watch them grace.

  26. The Lunar New Year, the most important holiday in China and much of Asia. After dismissing the snake, Chinese welcome the Year of the Horse with thunderous fireworks and gargantuan family banquets. Beyond the usual fireworks and the inevitable "dumplings".
Totally deserved, the Chinese have a reputation for tireless currantes able to work seven days a week and nights. But that does not mean they are not holidays and even bridges. Varying depending on the case, the holiday period lasts pre-and post-lunar new year two weeks when the work activity decays fairly in China.
Advantages: It is a good time for all those who are living outside their countries can meet again. So, for that reunion aprobechara and houses are cleaned. Also, your aprobechas to buy new clothes and he likes the youth of today, the take money from your parents, grandparents, cousins, uncles ... It's a good time because the weather is perfect and especially the happiness of each family being together after a long time.
Like any other party, the least you can do is get to enjoy meeting and only a small disadvantage the Chinese New Year and they throw a lot of fireworks and I hate them.

  28. Chinese New Year has the same meaning that our new year which we celebrate at Christmas, so, it is the beginning of a new project in our lives. All think to do new things in the next year like go to the gym, give up smoking, get a diet…, but hardly ever we get it.
Some advantages to celebrate Chinese New Year could be people enjoy so much with the parties, especially when they join at home, and share their food, drink and meet old relatives who don’t see for a long time. Besides, they decorate their houses with good slogans to wish happiness and hope. All this activities have a fantastic final when they throw lighting firecrackers which is a marvellous spectacle.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages because if we take as ours other cultures, we can lose ours, and this is not good for any society. A lot of people are taken some symbols and customs from other cultures, and they are losing the traditional things which are typical in different countries.
From my point of view, we must keep our own traditions which are even better than others, because ours are more ancient and have a big importance all over the word.

  29. I would definitely like to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I think it is a celebration similar to our New Year. It is very nice because it gathers the family together. There is a
family gathering where the family gets together and has a special dinner. There they talk for hours and spend special moments together. The family in the Chinese culture is very important as it is also in our culture. The elders are very respected and occupy a special place in all the family events. We too respect our elders and like to listen to their stories of the past and like to follow their recomendations. In the Chinese New Year celebration I like the way they decorate their homes. We too do similar decorations in ours. The windows and doors have red paper cut designs which I do at home for Christmas. A few negative aspects of the Chinese Year celebration are first the thorough cleaning of the house. I would not like to have to do this during the holidays. That takes lots of time and effort and not something I would like to do. I am not supersticious so I do not like the idea of pushing out the spirits and letting new ones in. I think all celebrations are nice and the Chinese New Year is one more. Personally, I very much enjoy our New Year but respect other celebrations in different cultures.

Chinese greet the arrival of the New Year with firecrackers and fireworks , while lying then money will burn in honor of the ancestors and the next day we will visit the temples to ask the horse what these days is repeated in every corner of China: ' Gong xi fa cai ' ( I wish you get a lot of money ) . The doors of the houses look decorations with good wishes for the coming year .
To me what I especially like are the firecrackers and fireworks used during the celebration and parades with ornate dragon of many colors.

    CHINESE NEW YEAR

I like the new year Chinese because is a festival that seem a lot of interesting, popular and fantastic in china. The new year Chinese is very important to Chinese because also they can praise their antecessor.
The advantages of Chinese new year is that they live this time as a lot of emotion and happiness because is one of few festivals that they have throughout the year. Moreover they have a conexion with this time because is too the time of the lunar new year.
The disadvantages of Chinese new year is for example that every body stay in the street and the traffic, streets,… are collapsed for the a lot of people that stay out in this day.
In conclusion, the Chinese new year is a festival to remember because are a few days to remember because make a lot of celebrations with the families, friends, …

  32. Of course I would like to celebrate it. Although it is not part of my culture, it is a wonderful and positive way of sharing and enjoying life with people from other sides of the world. Why not? There are many Chinese people in Spain already and they organize festivals in their communities but everybody is invited and can participate. They are compatible and inclusive celebrations.
I think we should integrate in our habits celebrations of all the people who live here. There is nothing wrong about it. Plus, the Chinese culture is one the most ancient civilizations in the whole world. It is full of wisdom and spirituality. Everybody can take advantage of it. We can learn a lot form different cultures and ways of life. It is a good way to learn and open the mind.

  33. I think the chinese new year is a very important holiday in the world because there are Chinese everywhere, and therefore when held is celebrated everywhere in the world, not just in Asia, in my opinion the Chinese are hard-working and very ready therefore have another day to celebrate the new year because they celebrate it by the new moon. I've never been to China but I'd like to go to see his way of thinking, their culture and their customs... personally to my would like to celebrate the Chinese new year because it seems a party world, full of joy, good wishes and happiness. In the news always come out the fireworks when it is celebrated the Chinese new year, and my impress me much because it is a show. The Chinese are a world power and that without them we would not have many things because most of the things are manufactured in Asia. The disadvantages that have to celebrate the Chinese new year is that you should learn Chinese to find out what they say and what they read because I've informed and I read every year a text that brings you good luck for the new year.

The Chinese New Year is an Eastern tradition that is spreading throughout the world and it is something that is celebrated not only in Asia but in America countries . It is very similar to the new year of Spain but there are things that are different from us.

On the one hand this is a family event where the whole family has dinner together and celebrate together the arrival of the year. Some of the activities that are performed that night are very interesting, like putting in houses red paper cutouts and colored ribbons or bracelets reflecting popular subjects such as "good luck " or "happiness", "wealth " , and" longevity " . also launched rockets and streamers.
On the other hand , is a big expense , because if the current New Year is celebrated on January 1 and they will celebrate 15 days later does not seem right because everybody should we celebrate on the same date when the new year . dates for the Chinese are very rare, and in fact, our culture does not fit the reason we celebrate the Chinese year .
It would be interesting to know how the holidays are celebrated , yet I still prefer choose to celebrate the new year we, the Spaniards .

Particularly to me is not that I like very much the oriental culture. But I like to learn new things and see the world and finds more activities of Spain. Honestly I would like to have the opportunity to visit China and see what is the new year, although the figure of the red dragon and the doors and painted details in red and have seen in movies and some other series.

In Seville we can see many Chinese or Japanese restaurants where most furniture are red. Many also have some red dragon in its decoration, but I did not know until now was because it gave them good luck. Now when you go to one of these restaurants and saber because there are so many details with this red text and drawing.
But I particularly prefer to travel by Alaska to Japan because many people live here and I like ami more the quiet places with no one to bother me and there is much about mia nature, because here is where one truly rests .

  36. After reading this article about the Chinese New Year , I would not mind having to celebrate as it is better than I thought and I have a strong resemblance to our celebrations. In both cultures have a great respect for our elders, for their experience, and in my house at least we love to hear all that we can show and tell , whether anecdotes or opinions. The Chinese New Year also devote much time to the preparation of the houses in terms of decoration and amazed his habit of thoroughly clean the house with the help of all , it's something different that here nobody does , and that's fine because their beliefs so they say , although I am not convinced the idea of having to work that forms in the few days vacation we have. I consider myself a very open person and likes to learn new ways to celebrate things and live , but still, whenever you can choose , will the new years eve with my family and friends because they are the people I love most and the best times that can happen.

  37. I'd like to celebrate the Chinese New Year if only once in your life because it sounds very funny and amazing and could also meet customs of other countries, another way to celebrate, and other types of food. This kind of experience is never forgotten by many years go
The year 2014 is the year of the horse to the Chinese, but every year is an animal for example in 2004 it was cute, I think every country has its own traditions and we should respect them.
For the Chinese this is the year 4712 as well as in most cultures.
We must also think of the Chinese tourist looking for peace and do not know which is the Chinese New Year, this can annoy, it is also a waste of money for Chinese people.

Once I've seen on television celebrating the Chinese and it is beautiful and different from ours, but I would not change them. But if we have to celebrate it, held and that means having more vacation. My everything that is celebrating like this and I said, but not take away what I my parties.
Not be that advantages will be the Festival of the Chinese that I hardly know it, do not understand the lunar years and don't believe in the Red papers and messages in windows for good luck. But I respect that and understand that if since they were kids they have taught is so so perfect, they are their customs and surely they do not understand our customs.Although most Chinese who come to Spain to Spaniards who go to China, although they are many but anyway I think that to them if they like our customs.
Well maybe try to someday that can pay me a trip to China make coinciding with the lunar year holidays to see that such is and will then tell you the adventages an disadventages of the party

  40. I would like participate and live in person as the Chinese New Year is the most important celebration in China. It lasts 15 days and begins on the first day of the lunar calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar used by us. In 2014 Chinese New Year begins on Friday January 31 .
One of the existing customs in the celebration of the Chinese New Year is the dragon dance , which seeks to drive away evil spirits . The longer the dragon is, the more luck and prosperity it brings. There is also a parade that attracts large crowds . There are colorful floats, acrobats, magicians, musicians and dancers in traditional lion and dragon heads show. During the Chinese New Year, red envelopes are given to younger generations by family and close friends. Within these there is " lucky money " that is used by the smallest to buy a small gift. Everything that is eaten or used during those days (New Year ) has a meaning to augur peace, prosperity and good fortune. The noodles mean longevity, chicken and shrimp and fish symbolize happiness and are consumed to have plenty of food and no family goes hungry . The Chinese New Year celebrations extend for 15 days. On day 15 of the lunar calendar festival lanterns that celebrates and promotes good relations between people takes place . Chinese children make their own lanterns .

I think it’s good to celebrate New Year in different countries and in different ways, because we can learn about other cultures.
On the one hand it’s a very beautiful party, everybody has fun and is happy about starting a new year, they watch the shows, the lights, and they drink with their friends…
On the other hand, buying all the fireworks is very expensive, because they buy a lot. They are also very dangerous, because you can get burn or if they are in bad conditions they can exploit, and if they exploit near you, it can hurt you.
I think the worst thing is that the next day all the streets are dirty, so it pollute the atmosphere a lot.
In conclusion, celebrating New Year in Chine is a very famous and beautiful celebration, but you have to be careful unless you want to hurt yourself.

Next you celebrate the New year with in the night party normally In china, they celebrate the New Year for some days and they do a dragon´s festival where the chinese person walk a false dragon and they do the dragon´s dance.

  43. Besides the numerous festivals that do have to be very funny and I think I would spent a very good time celebrating it.
    1. We must understand and respect the tourists who visit China and when they are invaded streets of people and cannot enjoy the scenery and good rest quietly in the hotel due to noise caused by this type of event. It might be interesting to learn how they celebrate the festival, but personally, as it’s so similar to our New Year's party, I prefer to continue celebrating the traditional festival of our country, because the Chinese year doesn’t affect me and I don’t care.

  46. The Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the lunar year celebrations of its geographic neighbors. Inside China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese New Year vary widely.
On the one hand I think it would be very exciting to participate in the Chinese New Year because they would know another culture, another way to celebrate and different types of food. Besides this type of holiday in China have to be fun and interact and meet other lifestyles is very interesting and good for us because they are experiences you never forget.

  47. From my opinion this is not a matter that you can choose if you prefer celebrate it or not. I think you should celebrate it according to the calendar that you use in
the place where you live. So if you live in a country where lunisolar calendar is used, you should celebrate the chinese form, but if you live in any other country
and you are using our calendar, our celebration will be celebrated by everybody. Said that, I can say advantages and disadvantages about the details of each party.
I think our celebration of New Year Eve has such a deep meaning than the chinese one. They use to honor deities and ancestors and we honor JesusChrist because it is
the anniversary of his birth. Personally I should say for me that is an advantage for our celebration because I am a Christian. However there is a clear advantage for
chinese that we don?t have and that is their New Year is celebrating during fifteen days and our just in two days. I would like to visit China once and probably the
best time to do it is during their New Year so you can see how they really care about their traditions.

I consider that the new Chinese year is a festival what have many impotance has been acquiring as the years went by and the diffusion of the mass media. It is a special, very colouring and scandalous celebration. Would like to be going to China to celebrate this new Chinese year, to prove new things in my life and to be able to enjoy and think about the same one. What I would not like is that was celebrated the new Chinese year in my country, SPAIN, because here we have a culture already constructed with traditions as the Holy Week that are own of this country, and I think that if the foreigners want to meditate, for example, the holy week, they must come hitherto, and not move the ideas of our holy week up to other places, because, among other things, there already they will have a way of celebrating this week as special as it is in españa, specially in sevilla. Finally i would like say that I know that we love festivals and parties, but we have to respect our traditions and transmit them to other generations.

By one side, the advantages or celebrate the new-year in a country as Spain are clear, first of all, the Chinese are a great trade with millions of people and celebrate this new year gives us a picture-perfect pass to China, and this gives us a good deal. Another advantage is that the celebration is fun, is a good match and we entretiener.
On the other hand, the disadvantages of celebrate the Chinese new year are that we could lose our main traditions, if we celebrate other traditional parties that could run the risk of losing our celebrations, and the other disadvantage is that the people of Spain do not want to celebrate the Chinese new year, because they do not believe in traditions
In summary, celebrate the new year Chinese have advantages and disadvantages, one of the advantages could be improvements in international trade since it is a celebration of the Chinese and a disadvantage can be the loss of our national identity because begin to have more followers the new year Chinese than celebrating our traditional.

  50. CHINESE NEW YEAR IN CHINATOWN (NEW YORK)
I would like to celebrate Chinese New Year in Chinatown because I would like to visit the city and this is a good occasion to visit it. Chinatown is like an small part of China inside the United States and Chinese people celebrate their party the same in China.
The advantages of celebrating their festivals are that they are very close and the feel they come from the same country. It is very nice to meet people who have the same culture that you. You can remember your friends who are far away, and you can think that you are in your native country.
But it has disadvantages as well. Because people will not get used to the new country and they will not be happy in a different culture. If you celebrate the parties the same in your country and if you live the same, it will be very difficult to be happy in the new country. You will not meet other kind of people and you even the language is difficult. This is the reason why many Chinese can’t speak English
In my opinion, I think that you have to celebrate old customes, but you have to be open to the future too.

The celebration of Chinese New Year for the information that I have is an incredible festival where all are thrown into the streets to see impressive floats and incredible and spectacular fireworks also people really enjoys celebrate with intensity passing it beautifully these the advantages of the Chinese New Year and the disadvantages are that is a waste of money and a great hype with great pretensions and superstition. I think we do not understand this event as well as to comment on it because I think that the Chinese will be something amazing and I think that the disadvantages of this so they will not be at all significant compared to the benefits . I'm impressed as the Chinese are so incredibly exaggerated having a party on such a large scale and exaggerated by superstition . I think this party is amazing and I would love to live it from within.

I can not think of anything to say the truth, but what I saw on television of these festivals is pretty cool, because dragons take to the streets where they put fire to make it more realistic, people are laughing, playing children , dream of a better life and one that
in that sense the Chinese are very optimistic, but I feel good that you attribute everything to luck because that does not exist, everything in this world has an effect and a reaction, since nothing happens for no reason.

The two new years have many differences, Chinese to each new year will put the name of an animal for example the new year the dog or the ney year the horse....Chinese New Year also has 12 months. Chinese New Year is celebrated in many parts because there are Chinese in all the world. The last day os the chinese year, the chineses dress up as dragons and go to the streets por everybody can see their dances and their costumes and so people can see it as their culture.
I personally have never celebrated the Chinese new year, I just celebrated the Spanish new year wich is better. The chinese ney year and the spanish new year have many differences but have in common that celebrate a new year.
